Growth Hacking

Growth Hacking

Growth Hacking refers to business strategies that are geared solely towards growth. The term was coined in 2010 by Sean Ellis, the founder, and CEO of GrowthHackers. It includes strategies that are based on data and experiments and which don’t require much resources and money. They are usually employed by small businesses and start-ups - companies that don’t have many resources at their disposal. 

Who is a Growth Hacker?

Growth Hackers are individuals whose profession is growth hacking. They can be identified by three telling characteristics -

  1. They are driven by data. They constantly track and analyze data to use it as a basis for their decisions. 
  2. They are creative and are constantly trying to develop new ways to attract users. 
  3. They are curious. Growth hackers constantly seek to have a deeper understanding of customer behavior and user mindsets. 

Examples of Growth Hacking Strategies 

Here are some examples of growth hacking applied 

  • LinkedIn provides one-click endorsements for existing connections. 
  • Youtube provides embed codes to make sharing videos easier. 
  • Dropbox offers users additional storage as a reward for getting people to join the platform. 
  • Airbnb put offers on Craigslist for their accommodations with a link to their site for people who were interested in getting more information
