As of October 2, 2023, Shopify’s one page checkout is available for all, and Shopify non-Plus merchants will be automatically migrated.

Shopify released a one page checkout experience that promises to make the checkout flow faster

Here’s a guide on Shopify one page checkout and how to achieve the full benefit of its features.

What is Shopify one page checkout?

Shopify has designed the one page checkout layout to be more streamlined and optimized for speed and conversion. 

Store owners can tailor the visual aspects of a one page checkout to align with their brands through custom fonts, favicons, and colors.

They can also extend capabilities such as delivery date pickers or customized shipping options through third-party applications.

How to Use Shopify One Page Checkout Correctly for a Faster Experience 

1. Leverage Shop Pay

On its landing page, Shopify promotes the payment option as an alternative to guest checkout.

Before you get started – 

✔️ Check if your shop theme is compatible with selling in multiple languages

✔️ Edit the default language of your online store and add other languages so that customers can select their preferred language. 

✔️ If the language that you want isn't available, or if you want to edit the default translations, then create original translations.

Here’s how can you edit and add multiple languages to Shopify one page checkout:

Step 1: From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Languages.

Step 2: Click Add Language.

Step 3: Choose a language from the drop-down menu, then click Add.

Step 4:Select an active market to add your language to.

Step 5: Do either of the following:

  • Use the Translate & Adapt app to import your translated content into Shopify.
  • Visit the Shopify App Store and install a translation app to your store. Follow the steps in the app to translate your online store's content and publish new languages.

Step 6: Click Preview to view different languages in your online store. You can preview both published and unpublished languages.

Step 7: From Shopify admin, go to Settings > Languages.

Step 8: In Unpublished languages, click Publish beside the language that you want to make available to customers in your store.

Step 9: Click Save.

Adding a language only adds translations in supported languages to supported themes and checkouts. If you want to add translations to other store content, then you need to import translations or use an app.

3. Pre-fill customer information

In brick-and-mortar stores, most customers are accustomed to paying with a single tap. 

On online stores, any friction such as another field to fill out or a high shipping price can result in abandoned checkouts and lost sales.

Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) payment allows shoppers to pay a certain percentage of the overall purchase price, and then pay off the rest in installments over a selected period of time.

3. How do I switch to Shopify one page checkout?

To activate the new checkout follow the steps below:

Step 1: Go to your Shopify store admin > Settings > Checkout

Step 2: At the top of the section, you should see an informational banner about the upcoming auto-update. 

Step 3: Click on the "Update checkout now" button. 

Step 4: Check the preview by clicking the link "Preview the new one page checkout"

Step 5: Go to your store and test it properly
